Caring for Your Furniture

Each piece of solid wood used in the construction of Adirondack furniture is an original, the result of nature's handiwork. Each has its own grain, pattern and colour according to the character of the wood. Light and dark areas blend during the finishing process to produce a unique and attractive look.

While you can paint, varnish or stain your furniture in other ways, one of the most commonly used finishing methods is Tung Oil. For the best results, here are some tips to help you finish your furniture:

Prepare the Surface

Additional fine sanding before finishing is recommended to rid the surface of dust or roughness. Always sand in the direction of the grain of the wood.

Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container of the finish you choose. They know their products best and will advise you on how to get the best results. Different climates have their own requirements; we recommend that you talk to your neighbourhood paint expert for the best finishing recommendations for your area.

Maintenance

To maintain the natural beauty of your furniture, we recommend an application of water seal treatment. This should be performed within the first 30 days and annually or as-needed thereafter. All hardware should be checked annually.
